SOONYOUNG “HOSHI” KWON resume

Soonyoung Kwon,

more known as Hoshi, is the leader of the Performance Unit and a true dance machine.

He won a dance competition back in 2013, which made him become part of SEVENTEEN in the first place.

His stage name is Hoshi for a few reasons – he graduated from Japanese literature in high school and speaks Japanese very well, and because hoshi is the Japanese word for ‘star’; it’s meant to make him shine brightly and be a superstar.

Hoshi has experience in martial arts, but in SEVENTEEN, he is known as the Dance Machine who makes up all the choreographies for the group.

Childhood

As a child, Hoshi was very shy and a good student; he never had a girlfriend because his mother advised him not to date until college.

Hoshi was a normal kid while growing up, he had a lot of friends and loved to play pranks on others.

Then, he discovered dancing and began to truly enjoy being in front of others and performing.

Before starting dancing, Hoshi trained taekwondo in which he has a black belt; he was the champion a few times in a row.

Taekwondo reminded him of dancing and vice versa, which is why he became interested in dancing.

His specialty soon became discipline and choreography creation, and in high school, he even created his own dance club and entered a lot of competitions.

These skills came in handy when he entered a district dance competition, won it, and made it into Pledis Entertainment, where he trained for 4 years before becoming a part of SEVENTEEN.

Career & Bio

Hoshi, also known as the Dance Machine, is the leader of SEVENTEEN’s Performance Unit.

Hoshi grew up in South Korea and entered high school in Seoul, where he majored in Japanese literature; he also learned Japanese there and speaks the language very fluently.

Hoshi is known as Mr. Dumbbell among SEVENTEEN and his other friends, because of his frequent workouts, as well as his physical fitness.

He trained taekwondo for 7 years and he has a black belt; taekwondo led him to dancing, which reminded him a lot of the discipline.
He entered a high school leveled competition which he won, and that is how he got recruited into Pledis.

He is the main choreographer of the group, and most of the choreographies of SEVENTEEN were conjured up by Hoshi himself.

Not only are other envious of his dancing skills, but they voted him as the member with the most aegyo, as well as the most hardworking member.

His inspiration and role model is the choreographer Keone Madrid, for whom Hoshi said is truly inspiring, stylish and disciplined; Hoshi said he’d love to be like him.

One of Hoshi’s strange but funny hobbies is taking photos of SEVENTEEN members in awkward poses and with bizarre facial expressions; while he said that DK is in most of those photos, he deletes them very often in case he loses his phone.
