For the competitive K-pop industry today, being talented on stage is not nearly enough to win over the hearts of a now-global audience. What is celebrated goes beyond the stage, and that is why a “self-producing” group, SEVENTEEN, or SVT, is making sure that the cliché of idol singers being products of cookie-cutter moulds will stay forever locked in the past.
Despite making their official debut in 2015, the charming set of vocalists, rappers and dancers have already been in the public eye since as early as 2013. Regular live-streams of their trainee lives via UStream’s “SEVENTEEN TV”, as well as the broadcasting of their final lap before debut on MBC’s “Seventeen Project: Big Debut Plan”, were a great way for fans (then and now) to get to know and grow to love the members – making their first stage all the more thrilling and grandiose a spectacle.
The Team
While their naturally powerful and arresting stage presence impressed many on day one, SEVENTEEN’s bold edge has not tarnished one bit. On top of “Manse”, “Don’t Wanna Cry” and most recently “Clap”, the concept-heavy ride they send their fans suggests that there will be many more pleasant surprises to come.
